Rob “Filo” Cabrera is the head designer and Division Director here at Outlier Knife Company. While Rob’s passion for blades goes back to the early 80’s, he started his own custom knife company “Filo Bladeworks” in 2008. Rob’s versatility and background made him the perfect candidate as a designer for Outlier. Growing up in the outdoors hunting and fishing, pursuing Filipino Fighting Arts and other forms of self-defense, as well as his career as a land surveyor for over 20 years have provided Rob with several points of view on how to design blades with purpose. Ryan Johnson of RMJ Tactical finally pushed Rob over the edge, telling him to stop contemplating his designs and to simply, “Go for it!”
 
Rob’s designs for Outlier include the Fang V3, Wrath, Fury, and Halcon-X. Rob’s focus for his blade designs is purpose; what will become the blades’ driving force and will then develop his designs from there. As a designer, Rob is about much more than the blades themselves. “It’s about the people and the unity within the craft. The term “industry” is narrow. It’s craftsmanship. It’s a brotherhood, a melting pot of different tribes. My love and passion goes beyond the blades themselves or the money, it’s about the people.”
 
DoubleStar Blades was sparked over a bottle of Buffalo Trace and wanting to diversify DoubleStar. Rob’s goal as division director was to create a lifestyle and creed that all consumers could identify with. Creating a Purpose-Driven, Unique, and Dedicated blade that would represent the person holding it. “Here at Blades, we are putting all of our efforts in creating high quality products and placing them in the hands of everyday men and women. Our Blue-Collar Community and Soldiers will always be the driving force behind the quality, design, and purpose of our blades.”
